Main task - Music magazine research.

In researching similar style music magazines to mine, i found that they were all similar in that they didnt have the same codes and conventions that other magazines like gossip have. For example they do not stand out in colour and they do not try to pursuade you to buy them due to appeal, however they do chose good coverlines that make you want to read the magazine. Therefore the genre of music magazines naturally only attracts to people who are interested beforehand.

I found that the prices were not as obvious to find in comparison to other magazines. Also one of the most frequent codes and conventions was that the main image was able to cover or overlap the masthead whereas is other magazine this would not be aloud.

I found it hard to discover a wide range of hip-hop soul music magazines. Therefore, for my research i had to also look at an alternative, which was a similar style/genre of magazines to compare codes and conventions, and get research to begin making my own.

The frequency of publication for the music magazine 'Kerrang' is every week. Therefore it is possible that most other music magazines would be weekly, however due to the public not buying music magazines as much as gossip for example, then certain music magazines only come out every month. The music magazine 'Q' for example has a special edition every other month. These have been about musical times, genres or a very special/important musician.
'NME' is a very popular magazine. The issue size is about 66 pages, which will therefore be similar in most other magazines, meaning soul magazine may be similar too. The regular contents which appears in these types of genres are features such as, entries for glastonbury, best tracks and ablums of the year, nomination of best lyric of the year, band of the week etc. These types of features, in the contents attract the audience ad the can get involved in the entries, and voting and they would like to be aware of the others.

  1. Some good points.
T - analyse the front covers in more specific detail, using media terms. This is essential when considering your target grade.
