Main task - Codes and Conventions of music magazine double page spread.

The codes and conventions of a double page spread for music magazines, similar and to my genre are as follows;

Quote on the main image
There is a quote on the main image that takes up a page on most of the double page spreads. This adds to the image and brings more understanding to it. Therefore the editor can be creative with what the quote says, to create a suitable effect, this occurs in most music magazines.

Bylines on the image
The byline gives the name and often the position of the writer of the article. They are mostly placed between the headline and the text of the article.

Page number/issue date/website
These are important but not always obvious(stand out) in R&B Soul magazines, as they are just used to the audiences convienience.

Stand first
Always by headline and before start of article - in my genre of magazine it introduces the article and explains what it's going to be about - engages the reader.

Articles
The articles can be informal to bring the mode of address. The articles can also bring a lot to the magazine, and could link to the main story.

Short an snappy headlines
These are used in R&B Soul magazines and are used for an experiences effect, as when the headlines are only short and snappy it means that they do not need to get a lot of information out, just to sell the article.

Name of interviewee
This is highlighted so that the interviewee is apprietiated and, for incase the name needs to be taken further.

Columns
Normally there are between 2-4 columns. This allows structure between different or new sections with in the article.

Headlines

Headlines are used to show the reader what the article is about. The headlines are normally short and snappy.

Limited colour scheme

The colour scheme cannot be more than 3 colours for the particular genre, otherwise the mixture of colours take away the importance of the article. The colours could also link certain areas to others when they are limited. R&B Soul magazine usually have a limited colour scheme.

Magazine name
Expected, and convienient in R&B Soul magazines. Normally placed at the bottom of the page or by the page number, which is what i decided to use on my double page spread.

Capital drop a beggining
This is used in all R&B Soul magazines and is used to show where the text starts, and also has a formal effect on the reader.

All have image taking up a page
This is to show that it is a double page spread, and can allow the image to do more than just add to the text as the image is enlarged and is representing a piece itself.
