Main task - Codes and conventions of Music Magazine Contents page.

Hip-hop Soul Music magazine contents pages, have a similar range of codes and conventions throughout all the magazines, however, as i do not have a wide range of hip-hop soul music magazines to collect my research from, i am using similar music magazines such as, 'NME', 'Kerrang' and all of these do follow the codes and conventions i am giving. These being;

Coverlines from front cover included in text
The coverlines used on the front cover are also in the contents page, however in more detail and stating which page it is on, leading direction for the reader. This is presented in hip hop soul magazines.

Subtitles
Subtitles are used to separate different areas of the contents page, so that the reader can skip to a certain part of the magazine they want. In the genre of my magazine the subtitles follow the colour scheme of the magazine, in colouring the letters of the subtitles.

Edtorial
This is on every contents page in all the magazines, as it is a form of mode of address. It is a chance for the editor of the magazine to say anything they would like to say about their magazine, which creates a friendly effect on the reader. However not many music, such as R&B soul magazine use an editorial, which is why I have followed this code and convention in choosing also not to include an editorial, however this was not a decision of mine from the beggining, only when analysing more music contents pages did I discover this.

Columns
Used to separate images from information, or different parts of the contents page, this makes certain articles easier to find.

Three or four columns
In the majority of the music magazines there are about 4 columns used. This is so that there is not to many or too less, which might confuse the reader. Certain music magazines such as mojo, do not have as many columns (could be no columns atall), this keeps it simple throughout, and is a chance to be different from all the other music magazines.

Images refering to the features
The images used refer to the context of the features as they then make more sence of the articles.

Webaddress
Used so that the audience can read and find out much more about the magazine rather than just what they put in the magazine for the audiences enjoyment. This can be seen as a mode of address.

Useful
Most R&B Soul magazine contents pages are useful so that the audience is never fed up or no satisfied with the magazine.

Issue date
This is for the convienience of the audience, so that they know when and how frequently the magazine is issued.

Numbered pages
The pages in the magazines of my chosen or similar genres are numbered so that the reader does not get lost or does not see where to find the page they want to look for. This again is for their own convienience.

One main image and one main story
So that the audience knows whats the latest but biggest news about the artists or to do with music. This creates structure for the audience, and balance.

Colour schemes, connected to front cover
The colour schemes used on the contents page are usually the same as the ones used on the front cover as this a visually usefull and effective. It also seems repetitive and consistant, which may lead to the magazine becoming recognisable.
