She has inspired lives of many, being one of the most loved, idolised role models of all music time! Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, born September 4th 1981, is an American R&B singer, song writer, record producer, actress, and model. There’s no wonder we all want to be her! Especially the girl who claims to be her biggest fan Kelly Baker! We’ve managed to get hold of Kelly an interview with her, and decide for ourselves if she is who she claims to be.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé joined in various performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child. Knowles rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child. Beyoncé released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love (2003), which became one of the most successful albums of that year, and signaled her viability as a solo artist. The album was a commercial and critical success, spawning the hits "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", and earning Knowles five Grammy Awards in 2004.
One of 2008's most anticipated new album releases, ‘I AM… SASHA FIERCE’ was Beyoncé’s first new studio collection since her Grammy-winning multi-platinum-selling ‘B'DAY’. Each of the discs on Beyoncé's new double album reveals a distinctly different side of her personality, character and sensibility. “When I started the record” says Beyoncé about her new double album ‘I AM…SASHA FIERCE’, “I knew that’s artistically, I had to grow”. The independence Beyoncé reveals through the making of the album, and the power to tell yourself to step up, and do so is astonishing!
Beyoncé was the latest big winner at the 2009 MTV Europe music awards in Berlin, on November 5th. The global music icon walked away with three of the night’s biggest awards, best female, best song, and best video, the audience was also treated to a mesmerising, live performance of the current hit, “Sweet Dreams”, so there is no wonder, Kelly Baker has been to 14 concerts.
Kelly Baker is a 17 year old student, trying to fulfil her dreams of becoming Beyonce Knowles biggest fan. She tell us that she would do anything “I would travel around the world just to follow her on her tours” to get a chance to meet her. We interview with Kelly and find out exactly what she has achieved and what she will do to achieve meeting her idol. So when asked how many Beyoncé concerts had she been to she told us fourteen! “(Laughs) I’ve been to around fourteen Beyoncé concerts, and I’ve also been to six Destiny’s child concerts because she’s my idol”. Shocking isn’t it. We then wanted to know which out of the many, many concerts was her favourite. So which one was the best performed for you? “I went to see her last week in the Liverpool Arena and it was so fantastic because the arenas so small I could hear and see her very well!” Then we thought we would really test her, and see just how close she got, and we weren’t disappointed! Did you manage to sit on the front row? “Well there wasn’t really a front row, we were all standing and I got there extra early so that I was right by the stage.” This then linked to our next question, and we wanted to know if anything wrong/bad happen at these concerts, she said, “No nothing at all, she’s fantastic, the concerts have been the best nights of my life.” Beyoncé really never has let her down. By this time Kelly was getting really excited. So how do you think you would react if you met Beyoncé in person? “It would be such an honour, I seriously think I would faint, I pray every night that I will get the chance to meet her! (Laughs).” I sure laughed too!
I figured after all my questions I wanted to know, what questions she would you ask Beyoncé, “Gosh the list is endless I can’t possibly think of which ones I would ask”. I’m sure she would be able to think of some! Then I asked the big one, What extremes have you been to, to show your support for Beyoncé? “I have made my own fan page which I go on all the time to check, and I’ve stood outside her concerts for ages before and after waiting for her, singing her songs and shouting how much I love her!” I wondered what extremes would she go to, to show her support for Beyoncé, as the answers became really interseting. She said, “Travel around the world, following her concerts and life, I would even learn to dance like her to audition for her videos.” (Laughs). I couldn’t believe how much Kelly desperately wanted to meet, or to be Beyoncé! Do you own any valuables of Beyoncé? “Oh yes I own a lot of valuables, they are so precious to me.” I bet they are! What are they? “Erm... I have T-shirts, CDs, posters, mugs, a mouse mat, a Beyoncé lampshade (Laughs), pillows, everything!” We both laughed, as basically her whole bedroom was Beyoncé. I asked her to tell me about them. “They are so important to me! I consider them more valuable that money.” Now that’s dramatic, but true! What do your friends and family say about your extreme passion for Beyoncé? “Erm… they support me obviously and try to help, because they know how much I idolise her and for how long I have waited to meet her!“ They must get fed up at least!
Beyoncé is at a different level is some ways to most other celebrities. Kelly Baker feels this way also which is why she is so idolising to her. Beyoncé once said, “Even though I've been very successful and very fortunate, I want to still be challenged and still be nervous and still be anxious about all the things that make my career exciting." We found out Kelly’s opinion on this in more detail by asking her. What is it about her that makes you such a fan?
“She’s not like other artists. She’s never in the newspapers or magazines drunk, falling out of cars, she just keeps herself to herself and pleases her fans. She’s perfect!” I personally agreed here with Kelly, but I can hardly compare myself in idolisation of Beyoncé to Kelly. I then asked the obvious all time favourites. How many albums do you have? “Every single album and single that she herself or Destiny’s Child have ever brought out!” I believe her 100%! The final question was a tough one, I wondered when asking it if she was going to be able to give me an answer! Which are your favourite songs? “Ah that’s almost impossible to answer. I love, “Halo”, “Broken hearted girl”, “Hello, “Crazy in love”, (Laughs) actually it is impossible! The list is endless, I love them all!” and I wasn’t wrong!
