Preliminary task Codes and Conventions of a Magazine contents page.

Magazine contents pages all follow codes and conentions, therefore they all link and familiarise with eachother.

The most important and obvious being that they all have sections and subtitles or perticular topics/ stories. They also consist of a main image and a smaller image, the smaller image being either people, objects, or the front cover zoomed out.

Contents pages also gave the numbers of the allocated pages which links in with the sections and subtitiles.

On most magazine contents pages on the left hand collumn there is a brief letter/editorial from the editor, connecting with the audiance. They thank the reader and givethem an insight on the magazine. This is also followed by a picture of the editor.

Magazines name the masthead on the contents page the same as the name on the front cover so that the reader is clear about what he/she is reading and they cannot forget the name. It is also for a double effect. The masthead is also usually printed in the same font as the main title on the front cover.

All contents pages consist of, an issue date, writing, columns, competitions etc. They also mostly have a plain background, often white.

Another code and convention which is popular in most magazines is to follow the colour scheme as the same on the front cver for the contents page, however not all magazines do so.

Finally, the aim of the contents pages are to follow the cover story, creating another link between the front cover and the contents page, and creating another code and convention for a magazine contents pages.
